20 January 2013
Wind Technologies will present at the Annual European Wind Energy Event, EWEA 2013, in Vienna. The presentation will discuss the design of a 5 MW Brushless DFIG and its performance in comparison with alternative geared and direct-drive drivetrians. Below you will find the details about our presentation at EWEA 2013:
Session title: 'Battle of Drivetrains'
Date: Monday, 04 February 2013
Time: 14:00 – 15:30
Presentation title: Design and Performance Analysis of a 5 MW Medium-Speed Brushless DFIG Drivetrain
Presenter: Peter Tavner, Wind Technologies Ltd
Presentation abstract:
This presentation discusses the design and performance analysis of a 5 MW medium-speed Brushless Doubly-Fed Induction Generator (Brushless DFIG) in a wind turbine drivetrain. A thorough comparison has been performed with alternative drivetrain designs including high and medium speed geared and direct drive architectures. The medium-speed Brushless DFIG in combination with a simplified one or two stage gearbox promises a low-cost, low-maintenance and reliable drivetrain for wind turbine applications.
