Wind Technologies presents at HUSUM 2012

09 July 2012

Wind Technologies will attend the biennial Husum Wind Energy exhibition and congress in Husum, Germany in September 2012. We will present at the congress our latest development on the medium-speed Brushless DFIG and the recent test results from the 250 kW medium-speed Brushless DFIG system. Below you will find the details about our presentation at Husum:

Husum Wind Energy Congress

Session title: “Engineering Offshore”

Date: Wednesday, 19 September 2012

Time: 12:00 – 12:45

Presentation title: Medium-Speed Brushless DFIG Drivetrain

Presenter: Peter Tavner, Wind Technologies Ltd

Presentation abstract:

We will present the results from testing a 250 kW medium-speed Brushless DFIG system developed by Wind Technologies Ltd. The new drivetrain concept comprising a medium-speed Brushless DFIG, a partially rated converter and a simplified 2-stage gearbox offers a low-cost, low maintenance and reliable solution for wind turbine applications, particularly for offshore installations. In addition, the Brushless DFIG has enhanced low-voltage ride-through (LVRT) performance during grid faults which eliminates the need for additional protection hardware such as crowbar.

The presentation will also discuss the quantified assessment of ‘cost of energy’ for a multi-MW Brushless DFIG drivetrain as compared to conventional drivetrains based on DFIGs and PMGs.
